2016 Survey Results

online-survey-clip-artEarlier this year, the GPOP membership was surveyed, in part, to inform discussions at the May 2016 AGM and conference. The four online polls sought input on GPOP matters, specifically an annual conference grant, membership fees, the listserv and interest in serving on a committee. For your convenience, the results have been compiled into one comprehensive report by Past Chair, Shelagh Donnelly. Check out the results of the polls and comments from your colleagues here.

Regardless of whether you are able to attend in person in Quebec City or not, your voice can still be heard!  Simply direct any comments you have to any of your Board members and they will raise your ideas or comments for discussion during the meeting. Looking forward to seeing many of you in Quebec City!

An Outstanding Opportunity: Act On It Now

If you’re interested in an opportunity for professional growth, consider service on GPOP’s Board of Directors

Why not take a bit of time to consider whether this is the opportunity you’ve been seeking to develop or flex those leadership skills?

Your GPOP Board conducts its business via conference calls and email, and this represents a unique opportunity to shape GPOP’s future.

While we’d love to see you at our AGMs, Board members need not be able to commit to attending conferences in order to contribute and make a meaningful impact.

We designed GPOP’s Board structure with staggered terms, to ensure both continuity and invigoration by way of annual elections. Your inaugural Board includes five members who were elected to three-year terms that will conclude in 2017, and six members whose terms will conclude this month. While each of these six members is eligible to stand again for election, some of us are intentionally standing down to ensure that you and your peers have the opportunity to step forward.

We have opportunities for six engaged members who would like to make a difference

Does this sound like you, or someone you know? Consider the impact on your CV of serving on a national board of directors, and the impact you can make on your professional association.

If you’re interested but the challenge sounds daunting, take a few moments to contact any of our current Board members to discuss the role. Then, contact the Nominating Committee.

How to Move Forward With a Nomination

The Board has established a Nominating Committee consisting of Joanna Campbell, Shelagh Donnelly and Jenny Forestell. If you would like to discuss the opportunity, or would like to nominate yourself and/or another GPOP member, let’s talk.

Please direct your nominations to

Shelagh Donnelly, Chair, Nominating Committee, on or before Thursday, May 26, 2016

Coming Soon … GPOP’s 2016 AGM Agenda Package

It’s almost AGM and conference time! Your Board of Directors has been hard at work on great AGM, networking and conference programmes, and we anticipate publishing the full agenda package early next week.

Agenda signCheck back next week for your agenda package, and set aside some time in your schedule to review the package and let us know of any feedback you have.

Whether or not you are able to join us in person in Quebec City, you have the opportunity to contribute to our progress. Feel free to direct any comments you have following review of the agenda package to any of your Board members. We will raise your ideas or comments for discussion during our May 29/16 AGM.

Earlier this year, the GPOP Board of Directors established a $500 grant to financially support a member who otherwise may not have sufficient resources to attend the 2016 AGM and Conference. A call for applications went out in March and submissions were adjudicated by the Awards and Recognition Committee.

Erin Elliott NSCCThe deserving recipient of the 2016 grant is Erin Elliott, Executive Assistant to the President at Nova Scotia Community College.  This will be Erin’s first time attending a GPOP AGM and Conference and she is looking forward to benefiting from the insights of colleagues across the country, meeting others in similar positions and bringing back new ideas of how to enhance her own role.  As Erin remarked, “I am honored to be a recipient and it is pretty cool to be the first!”  On behalf of all of us, congratulations Erin.  See you soon in Quebec City!

GPOP Membership

Our GPOP membership currently sits at 72, representing Board and President’s Office professionals from across the country, and more continue to sign up as they hear about GPOP from various sources. This request is two-fold. First, please take a minute to review the membership list for any errors or omissions as it relates to your listing, and second, think about colleagues you may know in other CICan member institutions who would benefit from this peer group but haven’t yet joined or perhaps don’t even know that we exist! Feel free to share the gpop.ca website with them and let them know that membership is free! Interested individuals can email Diana Falcon at dfalcon@langara.ca to request membership and provide contact information. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising and we appreciate your efforts in helping to spread the word!
