2020 GPOP & CICan conferences cancelled

To GPOP Members:

As you have probably seen by now, the Governance and President’s Office Professionals (GPOP) 2020 Conference and Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) annual conference have been cancelled due to COVID19.

CICan acted on the advice of public health officials and provincial ministers to avoid large gatherings and limit non-essential travel.  The health and well-being of our membership and others is of primary importance.   Those who have registered will receive a full refund from CICan.

We hope very much to see you next year in Calgary!

For more information from CICan, click on CICan Connection Conference 2020.

We wish you all the best, and hope you and your families stay safe.

Heather Martin, Chair, GPOP Conference and PD Committee 2020

And the award goes to…

The Awards & Recognition Committee is very pleased to announce the recipient of GPOP’s 2019 Award for Professional Achievement: Jenny Forestell, Executive Assistant, Board of Governors, New Brunswick Community College. Jenny, who is past Chair of GPOP and a most deserving recipient, was presented with her award at the recent GPOP conference in Niagara Falls. The Award for Professional Achievement recognizes current and past members who have made significant contributions to the realm of higher education or who have achieved professional success due, in part, to their experiences as a governance and/or president’s office professional. Congratulations Jenny!

GPOP Conference 2019 Recap

The 2019 Conference & PD Committee worked hard to pull together a program focusing on the themes of Inclusion, Balance and Harmony and they did not disappoint! From Saturday night’s welcome reception and keynote speaker to Sunday’s presentation and discussions, these three themes were woven throughout. One of the highlights was keynote speaker Sharon Thira, Director – Indigenous Learning & Engagement at New Brunswick Community College. Sharon spoke about Indigenous culture, shared the history of the wampum belt, and provided tips on how to make a meaningful land acknowledgement. In her interactive presentation on Sunday, Sharon talked about the four dimensions of life balance: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. You can access both of Sharon’s presentations – Singing Your Song of Peace and Life Balance – on the GPOP website under Resources/Presentations (note the presentations are password protected with the password you received when joining GPOP). The conference was an excellent opportunity to re-connect with colleagues, meet some new members, soak up new knowledge and share best practices. Congratulations to the Planning Committee for a successful conference and thanks to all who joined us in Niagara Falls!
