GPOP 2019 will focus on the themes of Inclusion, Balance and Harmony – both professionally and personally. Our keynote, Sharon Thira, will give an interactive presentation on Indigenous culture, history and learning. We are hopeful her talk will provide context, set the tone, and give us a foundation for our further discussions throughout the weekend.
Sharon’s appointment to NBCC was announced on March 12, 2018. Sharon is a senior Indigenous administrator and practitioner with over 25 years of experience in leading progressive provincial and federal educational responses to the health and educational needs of Indigenous Peoples. She served five years as the Director of the BC Network for Aboriginal Health, following a 14-year career with the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, where she served eight years as the Executive Director.
Sharon holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Arts from the University of British Columbia, as well as several certificates in Crisis Intervention Counselling, Cross Cultural Communication, and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing.
